Architecture Project: Prismatic Experience in Resarö – Ytterby Mine:
Yttrium, Ytterbium, Terbium, Erbium, Holmium, Scandium, Thulium, Tantalum & Gadolinium.
This proposal envisions Resarö Mitt as a vibrant interstice: a meeting place and stage for a phenomenon originating in Ytterby Mine. The mine, famous for yielding the world’s largest number of discovered chemical elements, informs both the site’s historical significance and its conceptual inspiration. Each year during Nobel Week, laureates traditionally visit Resarö to acknowledge this unique scientific heritage, further reinforcing the site’s global cultural relevance.
Drawing on the properties of rare earth elements like Yttrium, the design translates scientific phenomena into spatial experience. From Resarö Mitt, visitors encounter an optical display reminiscent of a rainbow, appearing as a luminous circle centered on the viewer’s shadow. Its shifting position emphasizes the interplay between observation, environment, and perception.
The PRISMATIC EXPERIENCE acknowledge Resarö’s unique cultural and scientific heritage, transforming the landscape into a site of curiosity.
